FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Red Rocks Community College to Produce D.W. Gregory’s Radium Girls

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department will present D.W. Gregory’s Radium Girls, on February 29, March 1, and March 2 at 7 pm at the RRCC Theater. The show is directed by El Armstrong. Radium Girls is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.

Inspired by true events in 1926, this play follows the lives of female factory workers tasked with painting luminous watches using radium, which was all the rage at the time. Many thought of radium as a miracle cure. Instead, radium was the cause of a rash of serious illnesses among the workers. Radium Girls has been called a "powerful" and "engrossing" drama by critics, offering an unflinching look at American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.

In this production, nine actors play thirty-eight roles, leading us through dial painter Grace Fryer’s battle with the U.S. Radium Corporation (and with her own family and friends) to get her day in court.
